"Marigold aims to highlight femininity in Jazz – especially my own experiences as a female jazz trombonist – and my compositions combine a variety of influences from modern jazz to my first musical inspirations like Etta James, J.J. Johnson, and Earth Wind, & Fire. My most recent research (submitted for publication) on gender discrimination in jazz heavily influenced the desire to record my music, as I discovered how few women were/are able to overcome the implicit biases of jazz culture, oftentimes lacking opportunities to record their music.
